Petr Konvalinka graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU) in the field of Construction and Traffic Engineering. In 2002 he was appointed associate professor in the field of Theory of Building Structures and Materials. Six years later, he was appointed professor in the same field. Since 2014, he has been a member of the Academy of Engineering of the Czech Republic.
Since 1984, Petr Konvalinka has worked at the CTU as an academic staff member, lectured on structural mechanics and has been systematically engaged in research and experimental activities. He was the solver and co-investigator of important basic and applied research projects (Center of Excellence of the GA ČR, projects of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Education, Ministry of the Interior, GA ČR and TA ČR). From 2014 to 2018, he served as Rector of the CTU; with effect from 26 September 2018, he was appointed by the Government of the Czech Republic to the position of Chairman of the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic.
During his career, Petr Konvalinka engaged in research activities mainly in the field of experimental and numerical mechanics, analysis of material and structural properties of building materials, in the field of destruction of building structures, and also in the field of static and dynamic load tests of bridges and civil engineering structures.
